A great stash buster! You will need around 1550g of aran weight yarn or 31 x 50g balls or 3100 metres. This is approximate but should give you a guide. You need 7 different colours, 200g (400m) of of them, 150g (300m) of 3 of them and 500g (1000m) of 1 of them (this is also the border colour).
If you are using thinner or thicker yarn then you will need to adjust your yarn amount accordingly.
This is a great project to pick up and put down over a period of time. To make it easier the different coloured squares are knitted in strips so rather than lots of squares to sew up. You knit 8 strips each with 11 ‘squares’. These 8 strips are then sewn together along the long edges – much less sewing and ends to sew in! The border is created by picking up stitches along the outer edge (with a circular needle). You will notice on the pattern that different stitches need different amount of rows as some stitches are looser than others. The squares are roughly 13cm wide and 12/13cm long.
You can mix the order around and change the stitch designs that you use. There are two types of designs, ‘all over’ and ‘grid’. The two have been used alternately to create a ‘balanced’ look to the blanket.
Finished size approximately 140cm x 132cm
