This season’s cosiest sweater knitting patterns

If you’re not a cardigan person [link to cardigan post], then you can’t go wrong with a snuggly sweater and Sirdar have some fantastic sweater knitting patterns to choose from. There’s just something about the autumn chilly air that calls for a sweater on the needles.

This year, I’ve been drawn to the new and some archive Sirdar sweater knitting patterns we’ve added to the shop. We've been busy adding Sirdar pattern downloads, we do still have some printed copies if you prefer a hard copy.  They tick all the right boxes for this time of year: warm and wearable, satisfying to knit, and easy to make your own with different colours or yarns.

I’ve picked out three that I think you’ll really enjoy, whether you’re looking for cables, stripes, or minimal sewing up.

Let’s take a closer look.

Sirdar sweater patterns to keep you sung as a bug

Sirdar 10719 Bell Sleeve Sweater in Jewelspun Aran

This sweater has real impact without being overly complicated. It uses Jewelspun Aran, which gives that beautiful variegated colour effect without needing to switch yarns. The bell sleeves and cable detail add a soft, vintage feel, perfect for pairing with jeans, skirts or even layered over dresses.

  • Skill level Intermediate
  • Knitted in a traditional method, front, back and sleeves

What I love most is how affordable it is to knit, especially for a cable design. The yarn goes a long way and the effect looks far more intricate than it is. A great one to cosy up with when you fancy something a little special.

Sirdar 10699 Striped Sweater in Haworth Tweed DK

If you enjoy knitting in the round, this one’s for you. The classic crew neck and simple stripe pattern give a timeless, unisex look, and it’s worked from the hem up so it’s lovely and rhythmic to knit.

  • Skill level Intermediate/Experienced
  • Construction, knitted in the round from the hem up

  • A great pattern for using up left over double knit

You could go bold with contrast colours or stick with softer, tonal shades. Either way, it’s a versatile sweater that’s easy to wear. I think it would make a brilliant gift knit too, especially for teens or partners who love something cosy and handmade but not fussy.

Sirdar 10767 Sweater in Loveful 100% Recycled Yarn

This pattern is ideal if you’re after something quick and easy, with minimal sewing up. The front and back include the sleeves, which means it all comes together in just two main pieces. If you’re not a fan of finishing seams, this is a brilliant alternative.

It’s designed for Sirdar’s Loveful yarn, which is made from 100% recycled acrylic. I really like that this one feels modern, practical, and environmentally conscious. A feel-good project from start to finish.

Which jumper pattern will you knit first?

Whether you’re drawn to cables, colourwork or clean lines, each Sirdar sweater knitting pattern in this selection offers something a little different.

They’re all downloadable patterns, so you can cast on straight away. Most will work beautifully with yarns from your stash or you can choose from our selection of yarn.

I hope you enjoy browsing the new Sirdar collection as much as I have. These are the sorts of patterns I come back to again and again. Achievable, wearable and quietly beautiful.
