I've always loved Petras' colour work in her hand dyed yarns and I've been wanting to add some more interesting sock yarn to my offer so what better opportunity to combine the two! Petra is from Solvakia and has lived in the UK for over 12 years, her brand of hand dyed yarn - Black Elephant is always super popular at yarn shows and we also stocked it at Knit One Leicester. All but the last 3 colourways are Petras' 'variegated', the last 3 listed here are 'speckled'

WHAT IS HAND DYED YARN?

Most independent yarn dyers will work in their kitchen or if they are lucky enough they may have a designated workroom. In brief undyed skeins of yarn are placed in metal dye baths and submerged in water. The dyer will add different quantities of different colours to achieve the desired effect. So every skein will be unique. After a period of time when the dye has had chance to permeate the fibers it is hung out to dry, sometimes on a washing line or in a drying room. It is a true artisan craft.

Washing instructions 

  • This yarn can be washed in the machine at 30 degrees. Tumble drying for any hand knit yarns is not advised.
