About the Rico Chic-Unique Criss Cross Blanket Knitting Kit
I was totally inspired by this Rico Chic-Unique chunky yarn, I love the miss matched colour block stripes that appear as you work it. I knew it would make a great blanket, ideal for a kit. The beautiful Chic-Unique colour changing yarn means you have no ends to sew in as you create this beautiful piece of work! And the finished size is ideal for a toddler for their bed, on the settee or in the car.
I wanted there to be some texture in the work and I'd always liked this Criss Cross pattern which features in my patchwork blanket pattern. So I combined it with a stocking sttich square and added a garter stitch edging, so the blanket is knitted all as one piece.
The blanket should measure ??cm x ??cm but do check your tension and make sure it matches my recommendations. When I made the sample I had a small ball of yarn left over. What am I going to do with this I wonder? It got me thinking that I could have just carried on knitting until there was enough to finish the last six rows. So in the pattern I have suggested that you try this, unless the waste yarn at the end doesn't bother you!
What are circular knitting needles?
The Rico Criss Cross blanket knitting kit pattern uses circular knitting needles. If you've never used circular knitting needles before: don't panic! They are not difficult to use.
Circular knitting needles can be used to knit something circular OR in this case they can be used to knit something that is flat and very wide. Specifically, too wide to fit on straight needles.
Holding the short needles may take some getting used to but soon you'll enjoy not having to scrunch all your stitches onto a not-long-enough straight needle!
