This ripple pattern is great for a beginner wanting to try something more challenging.
The treble stitch is simple to work and looks most effective when made in different colours. By using the treble stitch you create the peaks of the waves by increasing stitches and the troughs by decreasing. This is easier to do than it sounds!
I have used Sirdar Replay for my samples. It is a lovely blend of cotton and acrylic and its' 'round' construction makes it great to crochet with. Although it is a double knit and the ball band will tell you to use a 4mm hook I always like to work with a bigger hook to get more drape and fluidity to the piece. I made this sample using a 5mm crochet hook.
Approximate finished size is 78cm x 92cm , ideal baby or toddler blanket size.
SKILL LEVEL
Confident beginner
YOU WILL NEED
- 8 x 50g double knit yarn, 5 x 1 each different colour and 3 balls same colour. Balls should also have 150m per 50g or more
- 4.5mm & 4mm or 5.5mm & 5mm crochet hooks (depending on your tension),
- Scissors
- Sewing up needle
- It always helps to make your chain row with a hook slightly larger than the main hook, this avoids a tight lower edge to your blanket.
